Remember ‘back in the day’ when polyester was the material of choice and bright colors were everywhere? Men and women alike were wearing tight fitting pants (some things never change, right?!?) and platform shoes. By 1973, most women were wearing the infamous white ‘gogo boots’ and don’t forget our bell bottoms for crying out loud!
Early 1970s fashion was a fun era. I can remember myself thinking that we had some of the best clothing ever! Boy was I living the dream. By the late 1970s the paint suit, leisure suit and track suit was what the average person was
wearing. And every girl in my class had at least one cowl or turtleneck sweater in her closet. Bell bottoms were the rage! And what about the monochrome, polyester, double-knitted pant suits! Just scroll on down and take a look at these vintage photos I found! Those of you who are my classmates will remember this color–right!?! It’s that awful mustard yellow.
Now picture this everyone… put in ‘red’ bordering and you have our FHA (Future Homemakers of America) highschool club outfits back in 1975! (And we thought we had the best taste in fashion and design. ) I will give this to our current generations, you got it better.
Now for those of you who went to highschool in the 60s, I have a special treat for you. Remember Twiggy? Remember the mini-dresses? Teens and college girls sported perfectly coiffed ‘big hair’ and coordinating berets or wide headbands that graced their hair.
And oh yes, what about the makeup! The eyeliner! The colored shadows you all wore back in the day! Now that was classy times!
I leave you with a closing photo of myself taken from one of my classmates who just recently sent me via FaceBook. Yes, who can forget the hairstyle of choice… with most of my girlfriends, we loved growing our hair out long and of course it had to be parted in the middle don’t you know! And look closely. Yes, that’s a checkered polyester outfit with opaque tights and I’m wearing saddle oxford shoes as well.
It indeed was a ‘Best Day Ever’ time of day! Have yours!
