Remember ‘Back in the Day’ Having Fun?
Remember ‘Back in the Day’ Having Fun?
Ya know, I’m glad I’m a babyboomer, you know why? Because as youngsters and growing up, we actually knew what having fun meant. Millennials today and their children have no idea what joy they are missing out on being stuck to their cell phones or gaming devices.
How many of you all remember riding the ‘banana seat’ bicycles?!? It was the coolest ride in town at the time.
Heck, when my Mom told us kids to go outside and play, she meant it. We would bicycle into town to get a soda pop, or go outside and just play. You know the kind, physical activity. We would climb trees, go walking around the ‘square’ if you were a town kid, play basketball or be a part of the softwall league. We actually burned calories. Today our youth are becoming more overweight by the decade.
Also, swimming was a big deal. And no, it doesn’t have to be in an air-conditioned indoor pool like it is so much today. We swam in the pond or the local lake, don’t you know! I even have a secret to tell you (sorry Aunt Nadean…) but ‘back in the day’ when it was so miserably hot, my siblings and cousins LOVED to jump in the biggest concrete cow tank in the county! You heard me right! We did and wore cutoffs to boot!
So next time you hear one of your grandkids say “I’m bored… there’s nothing to do around here… you tell them ‘Go outside and play why don’t you?!?’
Meanwhile, do have yourself the ‘Best Day Ever’!!!!
