Homemade Food, Homemade Baked Goods

Remember ‘Back in the Day’ What Homemade Really Meant?

I hope everyone is having a good day so far!  Today’s blog is about what homemade really means and how we as baby boomers were brought up where homemade was an everyday thing, not something made to be sold primarily on ‘Etsy’!  Who remembers freshly baked bread?  But before it was even in the oven, our mothers and grandmothers would prepare the dough with loving hands with the sweet smell of yeast in the air as it ‘raised’ with a damp cloth over it?

In fact many a supper or dinner was prepared all with home-grown vegetables from the garden and with farm raised stock.  Back then, it was much cheaper eating homemade foods than purchasing the over processed food from the grocery store.  I don’t know about you, but I found that a lot of that fancy dancy frozen food tasted like just plain cardboard!  Why in today’s world, these Generation ‘X’ and Millennials will pay top dollar just to purchase something that is ‘homemade’ with all these new bakeries and whatnot.  In fact, I believe you can even purchase expensive homemade baked goods on Amazon Prime online!

Okay, I’m now ready to tackle this phenomenon known as ‘organic’.  You know what I’m talking about, right?  I mean, they now have complete sections in major grocery stores just so you can purchase all you want organically.  You know what my Aunt Nadean says about organic food?  Let me tell you…  “I don’t know what all the fuss is… all our lives we’ve been eating ‘organically’ healthy food!  Its plain and simple, its called ‘cow manure’!!!!  And it doesn’t cost us a cent!”

Today, organic is about pesticide-free, no hormones, etc.  In fact, did you know you can now purchase eggs at a higher price point by getting ‘organic’ eggs of laying hens who have access to the outdoors and aren’t raised in cages!  Your choice, but if you ask me, if someone brought you out a plate of scrambled eggs, would you really know the difference?!?  In my book, an egg is an egg is an egg…

Now don’t get me wrong, I know that it’s all well and good to want to feed your family with the best nutrition as possible.  All I’m saying is just be an informed consumer! Enjoy the rest of your day and have a homemade cookie!  Best day ever my friends!
