The Origin of the Month of June!
First, let’s find out how did the month of June come about.
The calendar year had only ten months under Julius Caesar. In 46 BC, he extended the year by adding two more months, making June the sixth month.
The origin of the name June is uncertain, but it is most likely named after the Roman goddess Juno. She was the wife of Jupiter and the queen of the gods.
Another theory suggests that it may be derived from the Latin word iuniores, meaning “younger ones,” as it is the month when younger members of society were traditionally married.
An even 3rd possibility is suggested that the month was named after Lucius Junius Brutus, the founder of the Roman Republic.
Regardless, in general, most people associate the month of June with jubilant celebrations of marriage, love, and childbirth! And of course, we mustn’t forget Father’s Day, always celebrated each year on the 3rd Sunday of the month.
